Landscapers in Birmingham
A city garden that is more problem than pleasure — tired slabs, a lawn that never took, no privacy and nowhere to sit?
Proud Gardens is a landscaping company based in Solihull, working across Birmingham. We build patios and paving, lay lawns and artificial grass, fit decking and fencing, and deal with the drainage and groundwork that older city gardens hide.
Bring us a defined job or a garden that has never been sorted. We are used to working in gardens reached only through the house, on streets where skips and deliveries need planning, and on plots where every metre has to count.
- Patios, paving, lawns, decking and fencing
- Gardens with access only through the house
- Single jobs or a complete garden build
From groundwork to finish
One considered landscaping approach. What We Can Build
Garden landscaping in Birmingham
City and suburban gardens come with their own constraints. The services below are built around them rather than in spite of them.
A long narrow garden behind a terrace, a 1930s semi with a side gate, a larger suburban plot on the fringe — each needs a different approach to access, levels and layout, but the groundwork underneath has to be right in all of them.
Patios & paving
Terraces and paths in porcelain or natural stone, sized for how the garden is actually used, with falls designed so water runs away from the house.
Lawns & turfing
Compacted, shaded city ground needs preparing properly. We level, improve and drain before turf goes down.
Complete garden landscaping
Paving, lawn, boundaries, planting and lighting brought together as one build — often the only way a small garden ever gets finished.
Artificial grass
For a shaded or hard-used city lawn that will not stay green, a premium artificial grass on a prepared base. See artificial grass.
Decking
Composite decking for a raised area off the house or a level seating spot in a sloping garden. See composite decking.
Fencing & screening
New boundaries, slatted screens and trellis — privacy is usually the first thing an overlooked Birmingham garden needs.
Drainage & groundworks
Falls, soakaways and land drains, plus breaking out old concrete and preparing bases, carried through the house where there is no other way.
Steps, walls & changing levels
Steps, low retaining walls and raised beds that make a sloping or split-level plot usable.
Garden clearance & preparation
Old slabs, sheds, concrete and overgrowth removed and the site cleared, with waste managed around the street.
Planting & borders
Borders and screening planting for privacy and year-round structure, chosen for shade and low upkeep.
Tell Us About Your Garden.
Tell us what needs doing, roughly how big the garden is and how it is reached — through the house, a side gate or a rear lane.
A Practical Starting Point
What kind of landscaping project do you have in mind?
You do not need a plan. Most Birmingham enquiries start with one problem the garden has always had.
The patio has sunk, the lawn is bare, the fence has gone, the garden is overlooked from three sides or it is simply a strip of concrete nobody uses. Often it is a few of those at once.
Tell us what is not working and how you would like to use the space, and we will suggest a scope that makes the most of the metres you have.
Usually a base problem. We lift it, rebuild the base with proper falls and relay in a surface that lasts.
Shade, compaction and builders’ rubble underneath. Prepare the ground properly or switch to artificial grass.
Fencing, screens and planting to overlooked boundaries, planned so the garden does not feel boxed in.
Steps, low walls and clever use of a narrow space to make the whole plot usable.
Paving, lawn, boundaries and planting as one build so a small garden is finished in one go.
From Enquiry To Finished Garden
How a landscaping project works
We start with access and ground, because in a city garden those decide the programme and the price more than the finishes do.
Tell us what you need
The job, the rough size of the garden and how it is reached — through the house, a side gate or a rear lane.
We look at the garden
A visit to measure, check levels and drainage and plan how materials and waste will move.
Agree the scope
An itemised quotation for the agreed work, with the access arrangements built in.
Prepare the site
Clearance, breaking out old concrete, drainage and sub-bases, with floors protected where we work through the house.
Build
Paving, lawn, decking, fencing and planting installed in sequence by our own team.
Finish & hand over
Jointing, edges and a final walk-through, with the site and the street left tidy.
Practical Landscaping. Properly Considered.
Why use Proud Gardens for landscaping in Birmingham?
Small gardens are unforgiving. A terrace a few centimetres out of level or a lawn laid on rubble is obvious when it is the whole view from the kitchen.
We treat a city garden with the same care as a large one: ground first, finishes second, and the access planned so the job runs smoothly for you and your neighbours.
We look below the surface
Old concrete, compacted ground and drainage are dealt with before any paving or turf is ordered.
Built around the way you use the garden
A table for four, a lawn for the dog, a quiet corner — the layout follows what you need from the space.
One overall garden
Paving, lawn, boundaries and planting planned together so a small garden feels bigger, not busier.
Design help when the project needs it
If the garden has never worked and needs a rethink, our garden design service can plan it in 3D first.

Landscaping across Birmingham and nearby areas
Proud Gardens is based in Solihull, so the south and east of Birmingham are closest to us and easiest to survey and manage. We also take on suitable landscaping jobs elsewhere in the city.
Parking, skips, deliveries and access through the house are planned at the survey, and we let neighbours know when the noisy stages are happening.
Whether a job is a good fit depends on its location, scope, access and our current programme. Tell us where you are and what you need and we will be straightforward about it.

Common Questions
Questions about landscaping in Birmingham
Our garden can only be reached through the house — can you still do the work?
Yes. Materials and waste are carried through by hand, floors are protected and the programme allows for it. Tell us at the enquiry stage so the quotation reflects it.
Do you take on small city gardens?
Yes. A patio, lawn or fence on its own is a common job for us in Birmingham, provided it is a proper job rather than a repair.
How do you manage skips and parking on a busy street?
We arrange skips and deliveries to suit the street, keep the site tidy and let neighbours know the dates for the noisier stages.
Why did our last lawn fail?
Usually shade, compaction or rubble under a thin layer of soil. We prepare the ground properly or recommend artificial grass where real grass will not thrive.
Do we need a design first?
Not for a defined job. For a garden that has never worked, a design first avoids building something you want to change later.
How long will the work take?
A patio or lawn is typically a matter of days; a complete small garden a couple of weeks, longer where access is through the house. A programme comes with the quotation.
