A Detached House Garden, Landscaped Garden Landscaping in Birmingham
The garden of a detached house in Birmingham, taken from a space the owners walked past to one they use: the ground sorted first, then the paving, artificial grass, boundaries and decorative planting built as one complete landscaping project.

- Birmingham

The Brief
A big garden that was not being used.
A detached house usually means a decent-sized plot. This one had the space, but not the layout, surfaces or finish to make it somewhere the family genuinely wanted to spend time.
The owners wanted a proper place to sit and eat outside, a clean low-maintenance lawn that would stay usable throughout the year, boundaries that created privacy and decorative borders that gave the garden structure without demanding every weekend.
As with most landscaping in Birmingham, the finishes were only part of the job. The work that decides whether a garden still looks right years later is underneath: clearing what was there, establishing the levels, preparing the ground and building proper bases before the new surfaces and finishes went down.
- Tired and uneven paving with weeds growing through the joints
- A patchy garden that did not provide a clean, usable family lawn
- Old boundaries with limited privacy and no consistent finish
- Untidy borders and no clearly defined place to sit, eat or relax
Before & After
From problem garden to finished space.
The same Birmingham garden before work started and after completion. The photographs show how the paving, lawn, boundaries and planting came together to completely change the way the space could be used.

What We Did
The landscaping, stage by stage.
Everything above ground depended on getting the ground right first.
We follow the same order on every landscaping job in Birmingham: clear the existing garden, establish the levels, prepare the bases and then build the paving, lawn, boundaries and planting on top. It means every part of the project works together.
Clearance & preparation
Old paving, tired boundaries, unwanted planting and existing garden features were removed so the site could be cleared and prepared properly for the new layout.
Levels, drainage & bases
The garden was regraded and the levels established before compacted sub-bases and the necessary groundwork were installed beneath the new paved and landscaped areas.
Hard landscaping
New paving was installed to create clean, generous outdoor living areas, with carefully formed edges and transitions connecting the patio, garden and house.
Artificial lawn, boundaries & planting
Artificial grass created a low-maintenance central lawn, while new fencing, gates and decorative borders gave the garden privacy, structure and a finished appearance.
- Porcelain-style paving
- Prepared and compacted sub-bases
- Artificial grass system
- Horizontal slatted fencing & gates
- Decorative low-maintenance borders
What the client said
“This is the second time I have used Proud Gardens. I cannot fault them.
My garden looked like a building site, but Rhys and the team transformed it into a beautiful space for us to enjoy and relax in.
We had paving, artificial grass, fencing, gates and decorative borders.
I cannot thank them enough!
I highly recommend them for all your garden designs!”
The Result
A garden that earns its square metres.
The family now has a garden that works for the way they live: somewhere to eat and sit, an artificial lawn that can be used throughout the year, boundaries that provide privacy and decorative planting that needs very little from them.
What made the difference was not just the choice of paving, fencing or artificial grass. It was putting the garden together in the right order — clearance, preparation, levels and bases first, followed by the finishes that everyone sees.
That is the approach Proud Gardens takes to landscaping projects across Birmingham, whether we are replacing one patio or completely redesigning and landscaping the whole garden.
